Gumbiner served for 12 years on the NDA board of directors, chaired a number of committees including the annual convention committee, and was instrumental in preparing the NDA Safety Manual.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is requesting information and comment on Table 1 of the agency’s Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard for Construction. OSHA seeks information on additional engineering and work practice control methods to effectively limit exposure to silica for the equipment and tasks currently listed on Table 1. The agency is also requesting information about other construction equipment and tasks that generate silica that it should consider adding to Table 1, along with information about their associated engineering and work practice control methods. NDA will be submitting comments.

Construction input prices expanded 0.8% in July but are down 0.6% year-over-year, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Producer Price Index data released today. Nonresidential construction input prices also increased 0.8% for the month but have declined 0.3% on a year-ago basis.

The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, Alabama, is collaborating with the National Demolition Association (NDA) to advance best practices for the demolition industry. Through a release, the groups note that the partnership will be mutually beneficial and will have “a significant impact on the safety and well-being of workers in the demolition industry and the successful completion of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects.”
